Frequently Asked Questions
Whether you're new to pole fitness or pole dancing, Melrose Pole & Fitness has a class for you. Our trained and certified instructors will walk you through the flow and movements of each class so you can build confidence and feel great. For more information on classes, instructor bios, and additional details, please visit the menu option at the top of the page.
Do you have to be an experienced dancer to take classes at Melrose Pole & Fitness?
Nope! We take it from the top, with most students starting at level one and focusing on fundamental training for shoulders, spine, core, hips, and pelvis. We build flexibility, mobility, and strength together in class. Within 4-8 months, you'll likely be ready to move up to level 1.5.
I've never tried Pole. Where do I start?
All our classes are beginner-friendly. To start, try pole 101, which teaches pole dance basics and fundamental moves. For strength and flexibility, consider our HIIT pole fitness class or our flexibility & mobility class. These classes focus on building the necessary strength for all of our studio classes. Our Tricks and transitions class is a combined level one and 1.5 class, demanding more strength than other beginner classes.
What do I wear?
Dress is your usual gym attire. Each class has its own dress code, which will be detailed in the confirmation email you'll receive after booking. Some classes require exposed skin, while others don't.
Here's a overall rundown of what to keep in your dance bag:
spandex shorts
leggings OR sweats
sports bra
a comfortable shirt
Kneepads (the studio also has some to borrow for class if you do not have your own.)
socks (these are important!)
Note- Heels are only necessary for our heels class, but feel free to wear them during the freestyle at the end of class or for open pole/ studio rental times.
I haven't worked out in a while. Will I be able to keep up?
Even if you're new to working out or it's been a while, our beginner classes are designed with you in mind. If you find certain moves challenging, we'll modify them to fit your fitness level. We are happy to meet you exactly where you are on your movement journey.
Am I too old for Melrose Pole & Fitness?
Pole classes aren't just for the young! Our studio has welcomed students ranging from 19-58 years old so far. If you're up for the challenge, we'd love to have you join us, regardless of age. (+18 only)
Is Melrose Pole & Fitness just for women?
While we celebrate womanhood, sisterhood, and community, our studio classes are inclusive to all. Regardless of sexual orientation or identity, everyone is welcome.
